Nudibranchs on Andaman Reefs
Small, bright sea slugs on sponges and rubble. How we look for them on Havelock dives without flattening them.

Slow down and look close
Nudibranchs are sea slugs, often only a few centimetres long, sitting on sponges, hydroids, and rubble. Guides who like small stuff will point them out once you start looking.
Colour
Many species taste bad to fish. The colour is a warning. Do not pick them up. Sunscreen and fingers damage the mucus they live in.
Finding them
Hover. Use a torch even in daylight in cracks. We point; we do not poke. After a couple of dives you start seeing the shapes yourself.
For photos, stay still in the water. If your knees go down to “get the shot,” you have already damaged the spot. Perfect Buoyancy is the useful course if you care about macro.
A turtle or a current can steal the hour. That is fine. Mention small stuff when you book and we will put you with a guide who looks at the rubble as much as the blue.
