Shore Dive vs Boat Dive in Havelock

Try Scuba is shore or boat. A boat is not automatically the better first dive. Certified guests leave the beach when the briefing says so.

The internet sells “boat” as an upgrade

On Havelock, shore means you kit up and walk in from a sheltered patch. Boat means a ride, a briefing on the way, and a giant-stride or a back-roll depending on the hull. Both can be excellent. Both can be cancelled. The sea does not care which word you paid for.

Try Scuba

Introductory dives at Continental Scuba are shore or boat depending on the package you book and the weather. The instructor stays with you. We keep the intro shallow (we cap it at 12 m). The goal is breathing, equalising, and a look at coral — not collecting site names.

If you are nervous, say so. A short, quiet entry beats a long crossing with a queasy stomach. Product page: Try Scuba. Non-swimmers: non-swimmer guide.

After you have a card

Certified fun dives are boat days on reefs the briefing allows. Names we already publish: Johnny’s Gorge, Dixon’s Pinnacle, Aquarium, Seduction Point. We do not let a first tank pick Dixon’s off a menu.

How we choose on the day

Wind, swell, current, who is in the water, how many first-timers. Full-moon weeks can mean more drift on exposed sites — beginners stay sheltered. That is also in the season note.

Live GST totals sit on the package pages, not in this comparison. Book: book. Unsure: WhatsApp.
